Manchester Branch news

The Workers Party of Britain is proud to reaffirm its commitment to strengthening our electoral presence across Manchester as we prepare for the 2026 local council elections.

Building on the historic success achieved with the election of councillor Shahbaz Sarwar, our aim is to deepen our roots in local communities, expand our membership, and implement robust processes and campaign strategies that will deliver meaningful results for working people across the city. A stronger branch structure will support Shahbaz and other councillors whom we hope to elect in May.

As part of this next phase of growth, we intend to contest no fewer than twelve local council seats in 2026. Our focus will be on developing strong local candidates, enhancing grassroots organisation, and ensuring that the voices and concerns of Manchester residents remain at the heart of our work.

To support these ambitions, we were pleased to announce the appointment of Mohammed Bilal Samed as Branch Secretary for Manchester. Bilal previously stood as a prospective parliamentary candidate in Rusholme during the 2024 General Election, demonstrating commitment in representing the party’s vision. He has consistently shown dedication to the Workers Party of Britain, its leadership under George Galloway, and its mission to deliver principled representation for communities often overlooked by mainstream politics.

In his new role, Bilal will play a central part in building organisational strength across Manchester, supporting candidate development, growing membership, and helping to shape the strategic direction of the party locally — not only for the upcoming elections but for the long-term future of our movement in the region.

We extend our full congratulations to Bilal on his appointment and wish him every success. The national leadership and local members alike will offer their wholehearted support as we continue working together to build a stronger, more effective Workers Party presence in Manchester.

Together, we look forward to expanding our impact, championing the needs of working people, and delivering a clear, principled alternative in local government.
