Statement on use of British missiles in Bryansk terror attack

The Workers Party is extremely concerned by reports that British Storm Shadow missiles have been used in a terrorist atrocity committed by the Ukrainian regime in Bryansk where seven were reported to be killed and forty-two injured. We send our condolences to the families of the bereaved and state that these crimes are committed not by our people but by a discredited elite in the name of Britain.

We have warned for some time that the use of Storm Shadow missiles was a serious escalation which carried the risk of directly involving Britain in attacks on Russian civilians and innocents. Our party reiterates its call for Britain to radically alter the course of its foreign policy objectives and seek peace rather than escalation. The supply of weapons to the Ukrainian regime is fraught with danger for Britain.

In his statement to the press this week the Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the UN Vassily Nebenzia said that on March 10th the neo-Nazi regime in Kiev committed yet another barbaric crime against the civilian population by carrying out a missile strike on Bryansk "a busy business district, located in close proximity to multi-apartment residential buildings, children’s goods stores, a university and other civilian infrastructure".

The report said that "The expired head of the regime Zelensky, speaking to the press, described this heinous attack as a “successful operation” and thanked the Armed Forces of Ukraine for their service. This is yet another striking example of the sheer cynicism with which the Kiev authorities treat attacks that claim lives of civilians."

It is thought that the strike was carried out with the use of at least seven long-range British Storm Shadow missiles and the Russian armed forces have pointed out that "it is entirely obvious... that such an operation would be technically impossible for the Ukrainian Armed Forces to conduct on their own."

Our government and ruling elite have lost all sense of proportion in their dealings with the Russian government. Frustrated by years of unsuccessful meddling in Russia's internal affairs, frustrated by the failure of the Ukrainian military operation, our ruling class is trying to achieve the impossible. The Russian President cannot be kidnapped or assassinated, which is the fashion of the times, and Russia cannot be defeated on the battlefield, so our government needs to rethink its strategy. Our national interests would be better served by respecting the democratic will of the Russian people, recognising their legitimate national interests and security concerns, ensure the complete withdrawal of Nato from the area and provide the security guarantees which are needed to secure long-term peace and prosperous economic relations in Europe.
