It's been a terrific day for the Workers Party which has built on previous success and delivered FOUR new councillors for the party.
BURY
In Bury our candidate Shabaz Imtiaz Shamim took an impressive 1,029 votes to become our first Bury councillor. With a by-election imminent in the town we hope to build on that success in the coming months and add to the branch.
ROCHDALE
In Rochdale our team took two new seats, Waqar Khan was elected with a huge 1,944 votes in Rochdale Central, getting his reward for a fantastic campaign over many months. In Milkstone & Deeplish our candidate Mohammed Shafiq won with 1,560 votes. In both Wards we were 500 clear of our nearest opponents.

BIRMINGHAM
In a major upset the leader of Birmingham city council, John Cotton has certainly lost his seat in Glebe Farm & Tile Cross to the Workers Party which has surely won its first Birmingham seat with Shehryar Kayani making the breakthrough. The result has been RECOUNTED numerous times with the result always the same, but some unknown force is insisting on further recounts and this is now the ONLY seat to be recounted on Monday.... In Birmingham a further number of candidates from the Independent Candidates Alliance with whom the Workers Party were allied made it through laying the foundations for future work in Birmingham, not least on the parliamentary front.
